Academic Procrastination in Group Work From the Perspective of Graduate Students

A research on graduate students’ procrastination in group work as compared to individual work.

Overview

As academic procrastination is a common phenomenon experienced by a majority of students, I researched the topic with my classmate as part of our Research Methods class. A lot of our work as graduate students is collaborative in nature. Hence, we explored if group work increases or decreases procrastination in graduate students and the reasons behind procrastination. The deliverables were a research proposal, a questionnaire, and a research poster.

Research Proposal

As the first step towards our research, we defined our research problem, performed an in-depth literature review, and proposed the mix methods research approach in collecting and analyzing data.

Questionnaire

A survey questionnaire was designed for graduate students who were enrolled full-time in their studies. The following areas were questioned as part of the survey:

  • Academic Profile

  • Life Outside University

  • Academic Procrastination (General)

  • Academic Procrastination in Individual and Group Work

  • Reasons Behind Procrastination in Group Work
